This last weekend our family went to Lallapalooza! Shelly bought the tickets and flew out here to surprise Isaac. We planned on surprising him Thursday night when he got home from work but he had to go up to girls camp and he didn't get home till 1:30am! We set the tickets on the table and put a sign on the door that read "Shhhh, Look on the table! SURPRISE!!"I was lucky Evelyn woke up just before he got home and so we chatted about it before we went to bed. He was excited.
It was so much fun. Friday night Isaac and Shelly went down to scope out the park and saw LCD Soundsystem, Ben Harper (with special guest Eddie Vedder) and the end of Daft Punk. On Saturday we took the kids and Grant and Evy got a punk-do. They also had fun dancing around. we sat and listened to Silverchair and Snow Patrol. Even though it rained a little we really enjoyed ourselves.
Then on Sunday we dropped the kids at some friends homes and went down to see Pearl Jam (Isaac's second favorite band... #1 Metallica). They were great and they had Ben Harper as a special guest. My favorite part of the show was when Eddie started the first few words of "Better Man" and then the crowd sang the rest. It was a very cool karaoke session and to hear that many people sing was so cool. Eddie said "beautiful" in so many words. Isaac and Shelly really loved that too. Another of Isaac's favorites was when Eddie said how good it was to "be back in Chicago remembering when he was growing up riding the El" and then he sang "Elderly Women Behind the Counter in a Small Town." And Shelly's other favorite part was at the end of the last song Eddie started pulling people up from the crowd to dance on stage. Our least favorite parts were the stinky people walking by (Shelly's), people cutting through the crown to get closer and then stopping right in front of us (Isaac's) and the pot smoke being blown into my face! It was all worth it though!
Isaac said police estimated about 200,000 people in attendance and I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the crowd. People were generally nice and I never felt crowded. I loved seeing the city skyline too. Maybe we'll go next year too.
THANKS Shelly!
